There are there symbols. (Hemlock tree, crow and dust of snow ) used in this poem. hemlock tree is a poisonous tree it symbolises death, crow is the symbol of inauspiciousness and snow also represents death. but all these natural things have been used by the poet in an ironical manner.

The poem suggest that it is a wintry season and the poet is standing under a hemlock tree. he is in a very sad mood. he thinks that his day has been a waste. just then a crow who is sitting on the tree. shakes down some dust of snow on him. the fresh and cold touch of snow changes the poet’s state of mind he thinks that if has saved the rest of his day and instead being idle he should become active.
